Wow now I can actually say something about thee mavs and not feel guilty because they arent national sports. but anyways the mavs had a mediocre game on moday night wich ended up with the heat just tinking worse than the mavs. oh yea and we also leans what happens when Stackhouse runs into Shaq, three stitches in the nose. Dirk had a bad night but Jason JET Terry came through for the Mavs. wade had a ok game but he had no one behind him backing him up. the Heat's bench only scored 2 points the whole game! so the Mavs bench can score points when the rest of the team is having a bad night. But the secret of the succes is that they have a good coach. Avery Johnson is a great coach and Nothing agaainst Don Nelson he was a great coacch but he probaby wouldnt have gotten them this far.

So Go mavs and lets roll on sunday.

The chase for history didn't end with Barry Bonds passing Babe Ruth on the all-time home run list. In fact, another pursuit is continuing courtesy of Albert Pujols.

On Monday, Pujols hit his 25th home run of the season, lifting the Cardinals to a win over the Astros. Pujols is right on pace with some of the game's all-time greats in pursuit of the single-season home run record, chasing names like Bonds and Mark McGwire.

And with 64 RBI, Pujols is one-third of the way to Hack Wilson's single-season RBI mark of 190.

Mark Cuban, the Mavericks' owner, made the following comments in response to Terry's suspension in an e-mail sent to ESPN on Thursday.

"It's not right, and I told the league so.

"It's certainly not consistent with what the league has done in the past.

"Jason responds to a guy hipchecking him in the head while he is on his back and can't protect himself and he gets suspended. You can't throw a punch while you are on your back and someone is laying on you.

"If Jason had tried to get him off with an open hand, or an elbow, we wouldnt be talking about this at all. Look at [Manu] Ginobli in the replays, he is staring at everything that happens and doesn't respond at all, but all the while you can see the grimace on Jason's face.

"The league also said they didn't know if the [Michael] Finley piledriver with his hip to Jason's head while Ginobli was lying on him was intentional or not. So they couldn't do anything about it.

"Unbelievable. When it's all [said] and done, this series could end up being talked about for all the wrong reasons."

Jason terry is out for one game without pay andwhile watching the footage I didnt see anymore than is already done in the normal game.

Justin Gatlin equaled but did not break the 100-meter world record at the Qatar Grand Prix last week, the sport's governing body said Wednesday.

The International Association of Athletics Federations said a timing error in Doha gave Gatlin a time of 9.76 seconds, which was one-hundredth of a second below Asafa Powell's world mark of 9.77.

The IAAF said Gatlin's time was actually 9.766 seconds, and that should have been manually rounded up to 9.77.

Doug Flutie Retires :(

Doug Flutie retired Monday, ending a 21-year career in which the undersized Heisman Trophy winner threw one of college football's most famous passes and played a dozen seasons in the NFL.

Flutie finishes with 14,715 passing yards and 86 touchdowns in the NFL, spending most of his time as a backup. Last season, he converted the league's first drop kick for an extra point since the 1941 NFL title game.

"If that ends up being my last play, it wouldn't be bad," Flutie said after the game, a mostly meaningless regular season-ending loss to the Miami Dolphins.

His college career was also punctuated by a play that endures as one of the most memorable in the sport. He won the 1984 Heisman after connecting with Gerard Phelan on a desperation 48-yard touchdown pass that beat Miami as time expired.

"I think Doug deserves it,'' Belichick said after the game," sensing that the play would be Flutie's football finale. "He is a guy that adds a lot to this game of football, has added a lot through his great career -- running, passing and now kicking."

Doug will be a college football analyst for espn and abc.

MIAMI -- The Miami Dolphins saw enough potential in Marcus Vick -- both on- and off-the-field -- to believe he deserves a chance as a free agent.
Vick signed with the Dolphins on Monday, agreeing to a free-agent deal after his many problems at Virginia Tech cost him a chance to be selected in the NFL draft.

"As an organization, we did an enormous amount of research, including consulting with professionals in detailed, in-depth analysis to feel comfortable that giving Marcus an opportunity as a free agent is a risk worth taking," Dolphins coach Nick Saban said in a statement released by the team.

"I want to make it very clear that we will not condone any behavior issues in the future relative to Marcus Vick. Marcus acknowledges that he has made some mistakes, all of which has resulted in severe consequences for him. They have helped him learn that he will need to make much better choices and decisions in the future or risk similar consequences that could jeopardize his career as a professional player."

But his career with the Hokies included many transgressions. He made an obscene gesture to fans during a game at West Virginia, and stomped on Louisville player Elvis Dumervil's leg during the Gator Bowl.

Vick was suspended by Virginia Tech for the 2004 season because of legal problems, then was eventually dismissed from the team after being stopped for speeding and driving with a revoked or suspended license

Despite the pitching being harder, the ball parks being bigger, and the game over analysed to any detail, Barry Bonds is still hitting the home runs in this league. If he breaks the record, he has earned it.
He has already earned his way in to the Hall of Fame.

At Notre Dame, against an inspired but under-talented defense, Leinart threw a flock of off-target wobblers -- two of which were intercepted. Yes, on the do-or-die fourth-and-9 from his 26, Leinart called a heady audible and lofted a beautiful throw to Jarrett for the game saver. Yes, Leinart went for broke and scored the game-winning touchdown on a spinning sneak.

But he received an illegal push from Bush. In fact, Reggie bailed out Matt throughout the game, making play after oh-my-goodness play to stave off what kept looking like the upset of the century.

In pro football, the focus will remain on Leinart. Relatively, his team won't be nearly as good as USC's, and the opposition will be much better. If Leinart gets down on himself, who will pick him up?

Cutler has a gun for an arm and a quick trigger. Like Namath, he plays with a cocky, captivating flair.

But the better comparison is to a young Favre. Here is a young gunslinger who will try just about any trick shot. At Vandy, he pulled off most of them because he (and in turn, his receivers) believed he could. Cutler is fearless to a fault. If necessary, he'll run over a linebacker for a first down. At 6-foot-3, 230 pounds, this kid is as bench-press strong and durable and as mentally and physically tough as any college quarterback I've seen.

After the Packers took A.J. Hawk with the fifth pick in the draft, ESPN cut to a live shot of Green Bay fans celebrating at Lambeau Field. One fan, directly in front of the camera, was showing off a No. 84 Javon Walker jersey. But over "Walker" on the back of the jersey he had taped a piece of paper on which he had written "Trader." Sadly, he -- and several of his friends -- were quite proud of this misspelling. (Assuming, of course, that it was a misspelling of "traitor," and not a reference to Walker trading furs with French trappers and Native Americans during his time in Wisconsin. Jay is coming into a team who's QB has a couple more years left which gives Cutler more time to practice and get settled in the big leauges.

Strengths:
Has a very strong arm...Good size...Pretty good athlete who is able to move a little...Sports a quick delivery with good accuracy...Patient player who will go through his progressions...Tough guy who will hang in the pocket and take a hit...Throws well on the move...Strong and durable with a lot of experience...A team leader with top intangibles...A gamer who comes up big in the clutch.

Weaknesses:
Mechanics will still get pretty dodgy at times...Footwork is very eratic...Will take unnecessary risks and make some bad decisions...His gunslinging mentality can morph into recklessness...Has too much confidence in his arm at times...Struggles throwing the deep ball...Has not had a lot of success at the college level from a team perspective...Body has taken a lot of punishment throughout his career.

Vince young is a QB who can throw tight spirals ad run like a running back.

Vince Young also has class, for any of you who watched the Rose Bowl Post-Game show and all his interviews afterwords he had class about what he said and also thanked the fans, he also said the USC team was a good team

Matt Lienart is a guy who can throw tight spirals but he doesn’t have any class.

After watching him say that the USC team was still better that UT I was pretty disgusted with him. But as a QB he is a pretty good guy, he throws good and is smart as a QB but he cant run.

30 years ago today there was a true american patriot that was not in the service but on the field.

LOS ANGELES -- It was 1976, a fun year for America. It was the country's bicentennial, the war in Vietnam had ended a year earlier and everyone really wanted to put all the problems from the 1960s, Watergate and Vietnam behind them and just enjoy the country's yearlong 200th birthday party.

On April 25, the Chicago Cubs were visiting Dodger Stadium for a three-game series. Playing center field for the Cubs was Rick Monday, the first player taken in the amateur draft that was created 11 years earlier. Monday was born and raised in Santa Monica, Calif., so playing in front of his friends and family was always special to him. On this day, fate would hand Monday a moment that people still talk about with reverence 30 years later. Monday recounts the moment in his own words.

I don't know if I heard the crowd first or saw the guys first, but two people ran on the field. After a number of years of playing, when someone comes on the field, you don't know what's going to happen. Is it because they had too much to drink? Is it because they're trying to win a bet? Is it because they don't like you or do they have a message that they're trying to present?

"When these two guys ran on the field, something wasn't right. And it wasn't right from the standpoint that one of them had something cradled under his arm. It turned out to be an American flag. They came from the left-field corner, went past Cardenal to shallow left-center field.

"That's when I saw the flag. They unfurled it as if it was a picnic blanket. They knelt beside it, not to pay homage but to harm it as one of the guys was pulling out of his pocket somewhere a big can of lighter fluid. He began to douse it.

"What they were doing was wrong then, in 1976. In my mind, it's wrong now, in 2006. It's the way I was raised. My thoughts were reinforced with my six years in the Marine Corp Reserves. It was also reinforced by a lot of friends who lost their lives protecting the rights and freedoms that flag represented.

"So I started to run after them. To this day, I couldn't tell you what was running through my mind except I was mad, I was angry and it was wrong for a lot of reasons.

"Then the wind blew the first match out. There was hardly ever any wind at Dodger Stadium. The second match was lit, just as I got there. I did think that if I could bowl them over, they can't do what they're trying to do.

"I saw them go and put the match down to the flag. It's soaked in lighter fluid at this time. Well, they can't light it if they don't have it. So I just scooped it up.

"My first thought was, 'Is this on fire?' Well, fortunately, it was not. I continue to run. One of the men threw the can of lighter fluid at me. We found out he was not a prospect. He did not have a good arm. Thank goodness.

"A lot of people don't know this, but he beat me to the flag," recalls Lasorda. "I saw Rick start running over from center field to left. I didn't know what it was, but as soon as I saw him start, I took off and I ran out there, and of course, by that time, Rick had picked up the flag and continued running. When I got there, I see these two guys and I told them, 'Why don't one of you guys take a swing at me?' because there were 50-something thousand people in the ballpark and I only wanted them to swing at me, so I could defend myself and do a job on them."

Monday continued, "Doug Rau, a left-handed pitcher for the Dodgers at the time, came out of the dugout and I handed the flag to him. The two guys were led off the field through the Dodger bullpen.

"After the guys left, there was a buzz in the stands, people being aghast with what had taken place. Without being prompted, and I don't know where it started, but people began to sing 'God Bless America.' When I reflect back upon it now, I still get goose bumps."

"That means something, because this wasn't just a flag on the field. This was a flag that people looked at with respect."

Thirty years ago, cable television was in its infancy and the Dodgers rarely, if ever, televised a home game. A Super 8 film of the incident would not surface until 1984, so the moment might have been captured only by Vin Scully's vivid description of it on radio. Luckily, in the photographers' well that day was the late James Rourke, who was shooting stills for the now-defunct Los Angeles Herald Examiner. Rourke had the perfect angle and snapped the now-classic photo of Monday whisking the stars and stripes away just as one of the protesters was going to light it on fire.

Monday, who played for the Dodgers from 1977-83 and has been one of the team's broadcasters since 1993, then recalled the impact the moment had on a country that was wanting so badly to show its patriotism again.

Shootout Vs. Overtime

Ok folks I personally like the shootout because it means a faster end to the games
and the whole room is tense to see if they score or not. But in the playoffs there is
no shootout, soo the teams beat eachother up longer and then win. :)
the stars stanley cup game( a classic) went into 3 overtimes. the game lastnight went
into double overtime.

Wow I watched the Dallas Stars last night and it was a horribly good game.
The game was intense but they lost in overtime so they are down 2 games to 0 out of 7.

Philadelphia Flyers 2, Buffalo Sabres 8 Ouch!!
the coach said they played ike idiots.

New York Rangers 1, New Jersey Devils 4
Devils up 2 games to 0, also John madden had a spectacular game.

Montréal Canadiens 6, Carolina Hurricanes 5
2 overtime periods. I like the shootout better.

Howdy folks.

I'm the politics guy, a hardnosed conservative that you probably know from my other blog.

But I also love sports, NFL in particular, with a occasional love for Hockey and Baseball.
I watch the mavericks in the playoffs, but not anymore then that.

Who I root for:
Green Bay Packers
Cleveland Indians/Texas Rangers
Dallas Stars
Dallas Mavricks
Texas A&M

So, I'll try to do some wide coverage, but don't be mad if it slants twoard the NFL.

NFL: Draft is saturday! Where will Vince Young go? I also wonder if the packers will get another QB, since they drafted Rodgers last year.

MLB: Gosh, the rangers are mediocre.

NBA: Mav's schooled the Grizzles, and Dampier came out to play. Jason Terry had several hot streaks, and Dirk N. was excellent as always.

NHL: Man, that was a heartbreaker last night. Stars go down to the Avs 0-3 in the first period, then come back and score 4 in the second period. Avalanche come back and tie it with like 3 minutes left in the third period. I go to bed, because its well night 11:00, and the Avalanch win in overtime. Bummer. Now the Stars are down 2 games to none.

Wow I didn't think that Jerry jones (the cowboys owner) would actually do such a thing.
here are some reasons that I don't like this situation.
1. The whole T.O. not liking authority. (not good with a coach like Bill Parcells.)
2. The media T.O. loves the media spotlight so he will do anything to get it.
3. I am So sick of hearing T.O. already, he hasnt shown up at the off season practices so the local media is going nuts about how T.O. might already be resisting the authority.
